1983 - 1988

Birth of an Adventure

The birth of an adventure: founded in Munich in 1983, MSQ begins its path between classical music, jazz and contemporary sound. In 1986, the ensemble receives a scholarship from the City of Munich and appears in Weimar, Hamburg and Hanover. Early collaborations with Konstantin Wecker become a first hallmark.

1989 - 1994

International Reach

International visibility accelerates: tours with Mercedes Sosa (1989), through the USA (1990), West Africa, and later Israel, Cyprus and Greece. The quartet discovers that music speaks every language.

1995 - 2000

Tours and Premieres

Between premieres, tours and sleepless nights, a repertoire emerges that refuses categories: including Gloria Coates’ 5th String Quartet (1995), appearances at Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and extensive tours across Southeastern Europe and the United States.
